Bako Patience
Uganda
Hi, my name is Bako Patience from Uganda! I hold a forestry degree from Makerere University. I am an advocate for climate justice, biodiversity and agroforestry.
While at the university, I was a student president for college of agricultural and environmental sciences, where I mobilized students to innovate for food and the environment. I am currently an innovation champion with Makerere University innovation hub where I work with young people to act for agricultural mechanization and agribusiness. I hope to help bridge the generational gap in food production within my country by ensuring that young people take lead in solving issues associated with agriculture. I also hope to help young people give rise to agri-start ups to solve the food and unemployment issue in my country.
I have been recognized by the global green growth institute for my outstanding commitment towards supporting youth and women innovations during the annual women in climate change conference in Uganda, 2023.
I have volunteered with Africa Tourism and Environment Initiative as a communications Officer where I coordinated a greening campaign and fundraiser to support climate smart agriculture in one of the driest indigenous communities in Uganda; currently facing extreme hunger and poverty. As an environment and livelihood development enthusiast, I also launched biweekly podcasts on Twitter to create awareness about how climate change is affecting our daily lives and push for collective youth action.
