Irene Ferrara

Italy

Hey there! My name’s Irene and I’m a passionate food systems transformations advocate from Italy.

I hold a MSc in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia (which is home to the HQ of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research), possess hands-on experience as a sustainability consultant, and currently work as an Advocacy Officer at Slow Food, an international NGO with a vision to ensure good, clean, and fair food for all. My expertise lies in (peri)urban food systems, climate and agricultural policy, biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, innovation in the food sector, and stakeholder engagement. Since 2023, I have also been working on the co-development of an interactive app aimed at educating consumers on the impact of food value chains and promoting sustainable food consumption habits through critical thinking and behavioural change techniques. Before then, I was involved in several advocacy initiatives over my teenage years, including organising environmental awareness campaigns and fostering youth engagement and climate action in my local community.

Driven by strong passion and beliefs, I very much stand by Gandhi’s words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.

As an Act4Food Youth Leader, I look forward to the opportunity to foster inter-generational dialogue and increased youth engagement in policy-making spaces, while also enhancing youth-to-youth collaboration and action towards creating more resilient, sustainable, and just food systems worldwide.
