Ruofan Fu

China

Hi, I'm Ruofan! I am a registered dietitian in both China and Canada, working to bring traditional food and health wisdom back to the view of the mainstream public.

I graduated from Acadia University and the University of Toronto in Canada, and had my whole dietetic training in the Western system; however, as I am deeply rooted in my own land and culture, I am constantly drawn back to these traditional paradigms, world views, ways of thinking that are rooted holistically in the land and all relations. During my study and work in Canada, I was fascinated and inspired by the Indigenous cultures and teachings, which shared great similarities with traditional Chinese cultures and teachings. These holistic ways of being inspired me to see a different possibility with the food system that is sustainable, equitable, able to break down prejudices and bias, and nourishing to all.

With a great passion for my own culture and traditional food wisdom, after her 10-year journey in Canada, I decided to return to China in 2023 to explore food in a brand-new way, addressing health from a holistic manner, merging Western science, traditional eastern medical ways, and agroecology. My vision is to introduce this amazing time-tested wisdom, in vivid language that is acceptable and practical to the young generation.

Currently, I am working as a dietitian and lecturer at a private food institute, PuShi (璞食), in China, which has almost 20 years of experience in Chinese food medicine and has been committed to raising public awareness of the importance of traditional food literacy, starting in kindergartens and primary schools. The institute has successfully assisted more than 300 kindergartens and schools in implementing early food literacy programs in China.
